Jay Whiting Becomes Youngest Brit to Complete the Everest Triple Crown

This spring, British mountaineer Jay Whiting etched his name into Himalayan history, becoming the youngest Briton ever to complete the fabled Everest Triple Crown—summiting Nuptse (7,861 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), and Everest (8,848 m) in a single season. At just 33 years old, Jay joins an elite group of climbers to have conquered this formidable trio, and only the second Briton to do so, following in the footsteps of Kenton Cool.

What makes this achievement particularly extraordinary is not just the altitude or the sheer difficulty of each peak, but the precision and endurance required to link them in a single push. Nuptse, often overlooked due to its slightly lower height, is considered by many to be the most technically demanding of the three. Jay reached its summit on May 12th alongside his climbing partner, Dawa Tenji Sherpa, navigating narrow ridgelines and exposed terrain that few climbers ever dare attempt. Just days later, they stood on the summit of Lhotse, capitalizing on their hard-earned acclimatization before pushing on to Everest. On May 23rd, under swirling winds and a cloud-streaked sky, Jay reached the top of the world.

While the physical feat is monumental, it’s the spirit behind it that makes Jay’s journey so memorable. “Project: 3” wasn’t just about personal achievement—it was a fundraiser for LandAid, a UK-based charity committed to ending youth homelessness. Through this expedition, Jay brought awareness and support to a cause that, like high-altitude climbing, demands commitment, compassion, and resilience.

This expedition was also a tribute to partnership and shared ambition. Dawa Tenji, one of Nepal’s most accomplished climbers, not only guided Jay but also completed the Triple Crown for a record third time—an unmatched achievement in the climbing world. Their success speaks volumes about trust, preparation, and the deep respect that defines the relationship between climber and Sherpa.

Jay trained for two years while balancing a demanding career as a solicitor, preparing his body and mind for the brutal demands of back-to-back ascents at extreme altitude. His accomplishment stands as a reminder that even the loftiest goals can be reached with vision, grit, and heart.

Congratulations, Jay Whiting, on your place in mountaineering history. As always, we are both humbled and stoked to see our bala being relied upon in such extreme conditions.
